MISSION STATEMENT: The Bug Children’s Theatre Series is dedicated to presenting smart, engaging, diverse productions with social relevance for Denver area youth. Our affordable programming promotes the enriching, educational, and entertaining presence of theatre in daily life.
THE COMPANY: We are a company of writers, actors, improv players, musicians and designers.
HOW DO WE CHOOSE OUR SHOWS?
We strive to choose pieces that all ages can enjoy. We use humor, imagination and music as tools to discover pathways to self-confidence, honesty, creative problem solving, respect for others and, of course, a love for theatre.
HOW DO WE WRITE OUR SHOWS?
We look for fairy tales, legends, and other well-known stories, updating plotlines in order to explore our brand of humor while reinforcing values and concepts kids really find useful. For example, Spiderella, based on Cinderella, follows a little spider as she learns to withstand peer pressure and stay true to herself and her interests. We also have fun creating stories from scratch, as with our bilingual musical, What I Did for Dia de los Muertos. In Dia, while a family prepares for the Mexican-American celebration of The Day of the Dead, they learn just how important they are to each other.
